The Reinvention of Work 2021
Slack research conducted in October 2021 exploring pandemic-influenced changes to the way Australians work should see an end to the one-size-fits all workplace model. Australian knowledge workers have emerged with a new attitude to work: what it looks like, where it happens and when it takes place.
More than half of respondents said they either want to work fully remote or hybrid, with a mix of working in the office and at home, and in their own hours, around other responsibilities.
Over two-thirds of Australian knowledge workers said they felt empowered by the technology they used at work. However, the issue of app proliferation continues to be a strain on productivity, with knowledge workers spending nearly 3 working weeks a year switching from one app to another. The need for a digital HQ, where all workplace software and apps are integrated into a single platform, has never been more important.

In this report we share key findings like:
- 45% of respondents said they would look for a more flexible role elsewhere if they were not offered some location flexibility.
- Two in three respondents said they would like the technologies and workflow processes adopted during the pandemic to continue to be used, even when they return to the office.
- Although email is still the most common way Australian knowledge workers communicate with people outside of their organisation, for 65% it is not their preferred method.
